Paint Fume Extraction and Filtration System for the Pipe Painting Line
Sanu Vent Project – Teleorman County
Application: Indoor coating line for spiral pipes
General Description
For an industrial line for the interior painting of spiral pipes in Teleorman County, Sanu Vent designed and implemented a complete system for capturing, transporting, and filtering the paint fumes generated during the manufacturing process.
The solution was designed to efficiently capture the vapors released at the two main points in the process: when the spray nozzle is inserted into the pipe and when it exits through the opposite end.
By correctly positioning the capture system and properly sizing the installation, vapors are captured directly from the source before they disperse into the production area.
Main Components of the System
1️⃣ Paint fume extraction hood
The system includes a 2 × 1-meter fume hood, located in the area where vapors generated during the interior painting of the pipes are vented.
The hood was designed to create an efficient extraction zone and to limit the spread of vapors in the production hall.
2️⃣ PVC curtains to improve capture
The range hood is equipped with flexible PVC curtains, which help define the work area and direct vapors toward the exhaust vent.
By reducing the impact of air currents in the hall, PVC curtains increase capture efficiency and help the system capture a greater amount of vapors directly at the source.
3️⃣ Galvanized sheet metal tubing network
The captured vapors are transported to the filtration unit through a network of galvanized steel pipes.
The ductwork was designed to maintain the required airflow velocity and to minimize pressure losses along the route. Its configuration allows for the efficient integration of the system into the existing technical space.
4️⃣ Activated carbon filter
To capture the compounds and vapors generated during the painting process, the facility is equipped with an industrial activated carbon filter.
The filtration unit is equipped with 16 cartridges, each containing 30 kg of activated carbon, for a total of 480 kg of adsorbent material.
Activated carbon traps compounds from the air stream through the process of adsorption, helping to reduce emissions before the air is discharged from the facility.
5️⃣ 7.5-kW centrifugal fan
Air circulation within the system is provided by a centrifugal fan with an installed power of 7.5 kW.
The fan was sized to compensate for pressure losses in the ductwork and the filtration unit, maintaining a constant suction in the capture area.
6️⃣ Total flow rate of 10,000 m³/h
The system is designed for a total air flow rate of 10,000 m³/h.
This flow rate allows for the efficient capture and removal of paint fumes generated during the application process, including when the nozzle is inserted into or withdrawn from the pipe.
Purpose and Benefits of the Facility
By implementing this solution, paint fumes are captured directly from the process area and passed through an activated carbon filtration stage before being discharged.
The installation contributes to:
- reducing the concentration of paint fumes in the production area;
- improving air quality in the workplace;
- limiting the dispersion of compounds resulting from the painting process;
- protecting nearby operators and equipment;
- reducing emissions released into the production environment;
- maintaining a stable and efficient production flow;
- airflow capacity of up to 10,000 m³/h.
Outcome of the project
Through this project, Sanu Vent delivered a complete system for managing the vapors generated during the interior painting of spiral pipes.
The hood equipped with PVC curtains, the galvanized sheet metal ductwork, the filter containing 480 kg of activated carbon, and the 7.5 kW centrifugal fan form an integrated system tailored to the specific requirements of the manufacturing process.
The result is more efficient capture of paint fumes, a better-controlled work environment, and a significant reduction in emissions from the production area.
