Heat Exhaust System for Textile Cutting Machines

SANU VENT Project – Timișoara, Timiș County
Application: Footwear manufacturing plant

General Description

For a shoe manufacturing plant in Timișoara, SANU VENT designed and built a system to capture and exhaust the heat generated by the machinery used to cut leather and textiles.

During operation, this equipment generates a significant amount of heat in the production hall, contributing to a rise in temperature and reduced comfort for operators, especially during the hot season.

The implemented solution allows hot air to be drawn directly from the machinery area and vented outside, helping to maintain a better-controlled indoor climate and improve working conditions.

Main Components of the System

1️⃣ Galvanized steel pipe network

The system consists of a network of galvanized steel pipes, sized to collect and transport the hot air emitted by the cutting machines.

The ductwork layout was designed to ensure efficient exhaust with minimal pressure loss and uniform airflow distribution.

The use of galvanized sheet metal provides mechanical strength, durability, and protection against corrosion, making it suitable for use in industrial environments.

2️⃣ Individual connections for cutting machines

Each unit is connected to the main network via a dedicated connection, which allows heat to be captured as close as possible to the source of generation.

With this configuration, the hot air is captured before it disperses into the production hall, increasing the overall efficiency of the system and reducing heat buildup in the operators’ area.

3️⃣ 3-kW axial fan

Hot air is exhausted by a 3-kW axial fan.

The fan was selected to ensure the airflow required to transport air through the ductwork and exhaust it outside the building.

The axial fan solution is suitable for applications that require the movement of large volumes of air at moderate pressures, offering an efficient balance between performance and energy consumption.

4️⃣ Bypass system for seasonal operation

Each connection on the machine is equipped with a bypass system that allows for the controlled redirection of hot air.

During the warm season, air is vented outside to lower the temperature in the production hall.

During the cold season, the bypass system allows heat to be redirected inside the hall, so that the thermal energy generated by the machinery can be used to heat the space.

This solution offers operational flexibility and helps reduce energy consumption during the winter.

Purpose and Benefits of the Facility

By implementing the heat recovery and exhaust system, the beneficiary gains better control over the temperature in the production area and provides better working conditions for the personnel operating the machinery.

The installation contributes to:

  • reducing the temperature in the production hall during the hot season;
  • improving operators’ thermal comfort;
  • capturing hot air directly from the source;
  • limiting heat buildup near machinery;
  • reuse of thermal energy during the cold season;
  • reducing the need for heating during the winter;
  • optimizing energy consumption;
  • flexible operation of the facility throughout the year.

Outcome of the project

Through this project, SANU VENT has delivered an efficient and adaptable solution for managing the heat generated by machinery used to cut leather and textiles.

The galvanized steel ductwork, the 3-kW axial fan, and the individual bypass systems form a system capable of operating differently depending on the season.

The result is a better-controlled climate in the production hall, a higher level of comfort for staff, and more efficient use of the thermal energy generated during the manufacturing process.
